Family Fun this May Long Weekend!

April snowstorms have brought us our well-deserved May flowers – and some beautifully warm days to boot! All this balmy spring weather has been fantastic, but it’s not quite as fun as it might be if we weren’t cooped up in our truck making deliveries through it all. That’s why we’ve been eagerly looking forward to Victoria Day long weekend. Any chance to get out there and enjoy some warm, sunny spring weather with our family is one we’ll always jump at – now, it’s just a matter of figuring out what to do! We’re certainly not lacking for options; Calgary is full of all sorts of great, family-friendly fun happening all weekend long. Let’s dig into it!

Thrills and Chills at Calaway Park

Calaway Park is celebrating its 2018 Grand Opening this May Long Weekend! We have some pretty fond memories of sunny weekends spent on the roller coaster and the Ocean Motion when we were growing up, and always love taking our kids to this family-friendly amusement park.

Welcome Some Furry Guests to Calgary at the Zoo

While this might not be an event particular to the Victoria Day weekend, you can bet that the Calgary Zoo will be a hotspot this May Long as people excitedly make their way to the brand-new Panda Passage exhibit to say hello to Er Shun, Da Mao, Jia Panpan, and Jua Yueyue: four giant pandas who have come to visit all the way from China!

Enjoy Great Eats at a Picnic in the Park

Head down to Victoria Park this Saturday and Sunday to experience one of the most delicious events of the season: the YYCFoodTrucks Picnic in the Park! Featuring mouth-watering food from more than 15 different trucks, live music, a marketplace, and lots of kid-friendly fun, the Picnic in the Park is also a zero-waste event (which we can definitely get behind) and features free entry for kids under 14. Not a bad way to spend the weekend!

Travel Back in Time at Heritage Park

Fancy a look at how folks used to spend the May long weekend back in the early days of Calgary? Take the family out to Heritage Park – they’re celebrating their official 2018 Grand Opening this weekend! Hop a train, enjoy some old-fashioned candy, check out Gasoline Alley, and explore so much more – our kids always have a blast whenever we visit this uniquely Calgarian attraction!

Take a Trip to the Country at Granary Road

If you haven’t taken your family out to explore the country-themed fun of Granary Road, you really don’t know what you’re missing. Featuring a 36-acre Active Learning Park, a friendly public market, and more, there’s lots of fun for the whole family. There are plenty of exciting special events taking place for the Victoria Day long weekend as well, including Irish dancing and drum circles, so bring your little ones out to for some country-sized fun this weekend!

No Matter What You Do This Weekend, Spend It with Your Family

We hope you’ve found some inspiration from some of these fun, family-friendly goings-on around town and are in the midst of planning a great weekend that everyone will be able to enjoy. At the end of the day, though, no matter what you end up doing this Victoria Day, we hope you take the time to enjoy the extra day off with your family and loved ones. It’s during weekends like these that memories are made, so whether you round up everyone for a trip out to Calaway Park, or just spend some time in the park across the street, be sure to spend the holiday with those that matter most: family!
